There are certain films that, for one reason or another, have marked our existence. Some of them, which have become industry standard, can also be found in the list below. But how many of the movies I watched with interest at one point are based on real facts?

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

“The Silence of the Lambs” is, without a doubt, one of the cult films of cinema, also having an extremely interesting script, but also an exceptional cast (Jodie Foster, Sir Anthony Hopkins).

Few people know that “The Silence of the Lambs” is not 100% fiction, as we might have imagined, given the sinister events that take place in this film. “The Girl Next Door” (2007)

In 1965, the owner of a boarding house, Gertrude Baniszewski, tortured 16-year-old Sylvia Likens. Baniszewski assaulted the teenager for a long time with the help of her six children, as well as children in the neighborhood.

“Hostel” (2005)

If you want to enjoy your hotel holidays in the future, maybe you shouldn’t watch the “Hostel” series. Especially considering that the story is one, in turn, inspired by real facts.

It is, indeed, quite difficult to determine how accurate the “Hostel” scenario is from a historical point of view. In an interview, director Eli Roth claimed that an organization based in Thailand allows members to shoot people in the head in exchange for $ 10,000, suggesting that “Hostel” was inspired by this incident.

The Hills Have Eyes (1977)

One of Wes Craven’s first films, “The Hills Have Eyes” (1977), tells the story of a family whose car breaks down in the middle of the Nevada desert. The family meets with a clan of mutant savages. Craven based his script on the 15th-century legend of Alexander “Sawney” Bean, who lived with his family in a cave in Bennane Head, Scotland.

According to legend, Sawney had 14 children and 32 grandchildren, all of whom were the result of incest. The clan lived in a cave and went out at night to rob and kill travelers who got in their way.

The Strangers (2008)

In “The Strangers”, three masked individuals terrorize a couple (characters played by Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler). Director Bryan Bertino revealed that the premise of the script was inspired by a story from his childhood, when a stranger used to knock on doors and ask about strangers. It is suspected that the story could have taken place in the very neighborhood where he lived.
