White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Tuesday that she hopes US President Joe Biden and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron can meet “soon” after last week’s talks.
“The president spoke with Macron twice in the last week, including on Sunday, the day before he spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin. And I hope (Biden) will speak with him again soon,” Psaki stressed at a press conference. .
“What we can do, and what I think President Macron played a role in yesterday, is make it clear to our allies and partners that there will be huge consequences if Putin decides to invade more Ukraine,” he added.
Thus, Psaki has indicated that the United States encourages “any diplomatic effort”, although he has assured that there is no prediction of what the Russian president will do: “We cannot control what Russia will do next”.
“We are and will continue to be in very close contact with our French counterparts on a variety of levels,” Psaki concluded, adding that, in parallel, there are other formats that the United States supports, such as Normandy, in which the French president participates active form.
