See important information at a glance without having to open an app – that’s what widgets are for. These were once also part of the Apple Watch, in the form of so-called checks.

With WatchOS 3, however, these were removed and had to make room for the control center, as is also known from iOS. According to a rumor, widgets could make a comeback soon.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is said to have learned that widgets will play a core role in WatchOS 10’s operation. The operating system is set to be the biggest update in years, fundamentally changing the way the Apple Watch is used.

Currently, the easiest way to get information on the Apple Watch is to start the respective app. To make this as easy as possible, a simple button press on the Crown is all it takes to get to the home screen.

Gurman says this could instead invoke a widget center overlay in WatchOS 10, which will be similar to the Siri watchface and will be compatible with all other watch faces.

The widgets should make it much easier to quickly access important information on your Apple Watch. Gurman sees this change as an admission from Apple that iPhone-like operation on a watch makes little sense and that widgets fit the watch format better.

Apple may also not be happy with the general usage of the Apple Watch apps. In Europe, the watchOS App Store less than a million users record monthly. By comparison, the iOS App Store comes in at over 100 million in the month.

WatchOS 10 will bring many more innovations, such as an overhaul of the home screen. You can read more about this here.

We’ll find out in June at the whether Gurman is right WWDCwhere the unveiling of WatchOS 10 is expected.

What do you think of Apple planning to bring back widgets? Useful or dispensable? Are you looking forward to it or are there other features you would like to see in WatchOS? Are there any apps in the WatchOS App Store that you can particularly recommend? Tell us in the comments!
