Nintendo has probably saved the best for last with its latest Direct, with what looks like a remaster for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Developed by Intelligent Systems and released in 2004 for the Nintendo GameCube, the remaster is coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2024. Check out the first trailer below.
Unlike modern Paper Mario titles such as The Origami King, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door uses a turn-based combat system that focuses on timing your button presses. You use Flower Points to perform powerful attacks and Star Power for special moves. There is also an audience watching the action that will throw items at Mario and restore Star Power based on your performance.
Furthermore, the title retains the series’ signature humor and exploration with a colorful cast of characters and a paper aesthetic. Stay tuned for more details on the remaster in the coming months. Super Mario RPG Remake is coming in November, while Princess Peach: Showtime! has received its first gameplay trailer, so Mario fans have a lot to look forward to.
