While we may not have hot dog eating contests in the UK, or anywhere else that isn’t America, that doesn’t make them any less fascinating. There is no bigger contest than the one that takes place annually on July 4 at Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island.
The winner is 16-time champion Joey Chestnut, who managed to make 62 hot dogs in 10 minutes. It is both impressive and somewhat disgusting to imagine anyone eating that much in such a short time. Behind Chestnut was Geoff Esper, who had only 49 hot dogs under his belt.
Esper, with his 76, actually holds the world record for most hot dogs eaten in 2021, but he was far from that number this time. The women’s hot dog eating contest was won by Miki Sudo, who polished off 39.5 hot dogs in 10 minutes. She is also a world record holder, having eaten 48.5 hot dogs in 2020, but again could not quite reach the same heights this time.
