The one who made the first iPhone with USB-C now reveals the first Android with Lightning plug. VIDEO

Ken Pillonel, the Swiss who first put a USB-C port on an iPhone X in 2021, is back in 2022 with a new, much more outstanding project. He also set out to do the reverse process, choosing to integrate a Lightning port into an Android phone, so that he could upload and transfer files from his device via an Apple cable. It seems that the process was much more complex than the one involving the iPhone, but it says that it finally managed to complete it and even faster than anticipated.

An Android with a Lightning jack doesn’t seem as useful as an iPhone with a USB-C jack

Although the announcement of this project around April 1 may suggest that it is a joke, Pillonel says that this project is really real. Of course, no one would want a Lightning plug on an Android phone, but the project answers the question of whether or not this is possible. It seems to be, but it takes a little more engineering than for the original project.

Pillonel used a Galaxy A51 as a guinea pig, which underwent hardware modifications both on the outside and inside to allow the installation of a Lightning port. I knew that Apple integrates chips into Lightning cables, and they seem to be able to recognize whether or not they’re connected to an iPhone to allow charging or data transfer. Thus, it was necessary to install specific hardware that would “trick” the cable that the Samsung phone is in fact an Apple device.

For now, the Swiss has released a quick video showing the connection of a Lightning cable to the modified phone, showing that it is charging and that it allows data transfer. He is about to launch the entire filmed process on his YouTube channel.

Pillonel revealed to Engadget that the iPhone X model with USB-C listed last year on eBay did not actually sell, the auction at the price of $ 100,000 being made by fake users. Thus, he ended up keeping the phone and no longer selling it.
