‘The Last of Us’ to get second season on HBO Max: what we know so far

No sooner has the first season of The Last of Us been released than HBO Max is already announcing the second season of the series made after the video game. The exact date is not yet known.

So get ready for more hours of viewing, Ellie jokes and maybe a trip to a Seattle in decline. It’s not really a surprise, as Naughty Dog’s game adaptation is already a big hit for the streaming network. About 22 million people have watched the first episode so far. The series also saw the biggest second-week ratings jump of any HBO original drama series.

The Last of Us will have a new season

If you haven’t watched The Last of Us yet and are curious what it’s all about, you can now watch the first two episodes on HBO Max.

For the uninitiated, The Last of Us is based on a PlayStation 3 (and PS4, and PS5) game of the same name. It’s often considered one of the best examples of storytelling in video games. The story of a smuggler who reluctantly escorts a teenage girl to the US after the world has been devastated by a fungus that turns humans into terrifying, mutated creatures.

So far, HBO’s terrific adaptation has largely followed the same story, with some clever deviations and changes. Film critics hailed the first two episodes.

HBO’s recently released and record-breaking The Last of Us series is stirring up some controversy among science and factual enthusiasts.

The original game of the same name was inspired by Sir David Attenborough and his 2006 series Planet Earth, bringing the creepy reality of Ophiocordyceps to the attention of filmmakers Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann. So The Last of Us is based, to some extent, on reality.
