John Goodenough, a materials scientist credited as a key figure behind the development of the lithium-ion battery, has died at the age of 100.
Goodenough won his 2019 Nobel Prize in chemistry, making him the oldest person to win the prestigious prize. Without his research, we probably would not have the society we have today. Lithium-ion batteries power our phones, laptops and electric cars.
Goodenough was a professor at the University of Texas, where many of his friends and colleagues poured out their kind words about the famous scientist. Goodenough may not be a household name, but his work is certainly something to be remembered.
