VEOM Studios has released the highly anticipated New Horizon-update for The Crust went live in an exclusive closed beta. This update represents a massive expansion to the gameplay of this in-depth moonbuilding sim, introducing new systems, optimizations and a load of futuristic tools for players looking to take their colony to the next level.
Players can now create their own Outposts build outposts that do much more than just mine Helium-3. They can now also refine regolith, store resources and support researchers. Outposts do need to be stably powered, via solar panels, RTGs, fuel generators or high-tech energy solutions such as the Thermonuclear Generator and Biogenerator.
You choose the location of your Outpost with the Transport Cannon, which allows you to shoot Resource and Anomaly Probes into the moon. Those anomalies affect the effectiveness of your base positively or negatively depending on their color code. This adds an extra layer of strategy to each new expansion.
New modules add depth to your strategy. For example, it generates AI Center automatically research points, put the Data Processing Node convert excess energy into Credits through blockchain networks, and there is an improved Harvester to extract Helium-3 more efficiently.
The logistics system has also received a major upgrade. Conveyor belts can now cross without problems, storage units have resource limits, and you can set input/output priorities with programmable distributors. This optimization improves game performance by as much as 90%, even at huge bases.
Furthermore, the update brings, among other things, a custom Custom Sandbox Mode, smarter drones with a new digging algorithm, an improved research tree, an expanded contract system, and logistical tweaks such as resource filters and a “Fill All” button for cargopods. Even the Moon Radio has been added, which lets you choose your own soundtrack while building on the moon.
The New Horizon-update is packed with improvements for players who love in-depth simulation and strategic space building. Want to join the closed beta? Then get a taste of the future of The Crust.
