The blow of the morning for Dacia, at European level: what happens to Sandero, Spring and more

In Europe, Dacia is a very popular brand, and this detail is reflected in some very generous sales for the Mioveni manufacturer. Unfortunately, every beginning has to have an end, and Sandero is no longer the best-selling car.

According to data aggregated by Jato Dynamics, at the end of March 2022, Dacia Sandero lost the first position in the ranking of the best-selling cars on the market in Europe. The good news is that he remained in second place after the first quarter and did not go down. Even so, Mioveni officials will probably not be very happy. This was an impressive victory, but it was inevitable that Dacia’s production would not be hit hard by the semiconductor crisis.

Dacia, between a warm and a cold one

The good news is that Dacia Sandero continues to enjoy the privileged position of being the only car with increasing sales this year in Europe. Unfortunately, in the context of the significant decrease of the car market, a decrease for the Romanian brand was almost inevitable. As a reference, if we limit ourselves only to the sales in March, Dacia Sandero is on the top five, down four places.

The best-selling car in Europe in March, quite surprisingly, was the Tesla Model 3. The explanation, however, is not necessarily related to the brand’s astronomical sales, but to the fact that it delivers orders in bursts, when it has assembled cars, and the the third month of 2022 was a good one for Elon Musk. Occasionally, for example, 575 Tesla Model 3s were delivered in January, in February the value jumped to 9061. Tesla Model Y is in third place for the same reason. Finally, it is the first time in history that two electric cars are in the top 10. No less than 18,968 Model Ys were delivered in March, while in January we were talking about 248 units.

Peugeot 208 also enjoyed a jump, to 21,026 registered, with the French car coming in second in March. VW Golf, which was ranked 1st in February, dropped to fourth in March, with only six more registered than the Sandero.

Dacia Spring also enjoys a privileged position in the top of electric cars with 3989 units registered in March and a total of over 9000 cars in the first quarter. Thus, it is close to Renault Zoe, with 10,300 registered units. VW ID.4 surpassed ID.3 by 10,854 copies. According to the two Tesla models, the leaders in the electrical area, the last position on the podium is occupied by the Fiat 500, with 22,000 registered units.
