Tears of the Kingdom begins at Sky Islands – That’s Gaming

The launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is less than a month away, and with Nintendo finally starting to show more of the game leading up to its release, the excitement and anticipation is increasing daily. Recently, the latest pre-launch trailer was revealed, meaning that more official details will likely be scarce between now and release – but some new points of information do seem to have surfaced.

The official website for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been updated with details about where the game will begin. Interestingly enough, when the game begins, Link will find himself on one of the mysterious Sky Islands, where he must gain access to new abilities before he can return to the surface. That means this particular Sky Island (or group of islands) will likely serve as the Tears of the Kingdom equivalent of the Great Plateau in Breath of the Wild.

“Link begins his journey on one of the many mysterious floating islands that have suddenly appeared in the sky high above Hyrule,” the website said. “It is there that our hero will have to acquire new skills before returning to the surface world to begin his epic adventure.”

Meanwhile, while the Sky Islands scattered throughout Hyrule will naturally offer a range of new content and locations to explore, the surface world of Hyrule itself will also have numerous changes from the map in Breath of the Wild.

“The sky is not the only thing that has changed in Hyrule,” the website says. “Familiar locations have changed dramatically, with new towns, dark caves and mysterious gaping chasms popping up across the world – all waiting to be explored.”
