South Korean president warns North Korea threatens “the whole world” with nuclear weapons

The president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, has warned Tuesday that North Korea threatens not only his country but the whole world with its nuclear weapons, after an escalation of tension between the two states in recent days.

“North Korea is now constantly developing and improving its nuclear weapons, and threatens not only South Korea but the world with its nuclear weapons,” the South Korean leader said, adding that Pyongyang would not benefit from such an attack, Yonhap news agency reported.

Yoon maintained that “North Korea’s nuclear threat is becoming more serious day by day,” but urged the South Korean people not to worry, but to give “their best in their economic and livelihood activities.”

The South Korean leader’s comment comes at a time when Pyongyang has heightened tensions in the region with a series of ballistic missile launches, including what North Korea describes as tactical nuclear weapons tests, according to the cited agency.
