SkyShowtime streaming service launches in Romania. It comes with the new Top Gun on offer, at a very attractive monthly price

A new streaming service, SkyShowtime, is launching this month in Romania. It has been confirmed for availability since last year, around the time of the Disney+ launch, but only now has an official launch date: 14 February. It comes with a very advantageous price for the Romanian market, being among the cheapest of those currently available. It also includes local films, series and original productions from many international film studios and TV programmes.

SkyShowtime will offer a wide selection of films and series found in other regions on several separate platforms

SkyShowtime’s movie and series offerings will include Universal Pictures productions, Paramount Pictures, children’s movies and series from Nickelodeon and DreamWorks Animation, and original productions from streaming services such as Paramount+, Showtime, Sky Studios and Peacock that are available in other countries separately. Those who missed some of the HBO Max original productions, which were launched last year and suddenly removed from the service, will find them back in the SkyShowtime offering under the SkyShowtime Originals banner.

At SkyShowtime’s launch, the service will offer access to a number of big-name movies, some of them recently released in theaters, such as Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World Dominion, or The Northman. Other recent movies available on SkyShowtime since day one are:

  • Ambulance
  • Downton Abbey: A New Era
  • Jerry and Marge Go Large
  • Ray Donovan: The Movie
  • Redeeming Love
  • The Bad Guys
  • The Hanging Sun.

A list of series available from the early days was provided by SkyShowtime, but it’s unclear if these are just the biggest productions, or if this is the complete list:

  • Drift – Partners In Crime (S1A)
  • Lioness
  • Minions: The Rise of Gru
  • Nope
  • Rabbit Hole

The monthly price for access to SkyShowtime’s selection of movies and series is only 3.99 euros per month, i.e. around 20 lei. There appears to be only a monthly price plan, no annual subscription. Also, the price in Romania seems to be tailored to the local market, with the price for other countries set at €5.99.

SkyShowtime will be available via the website and via the SkyShowtime app for iOS, tvOS, Android, Android TV/Google TV and LG’s webOS.
