Rumors about new iPad Pro models with OLED displays have been circulating online for some time. However, as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports, these models seem to be coming to us sooner than expected in 2024.
In addition to these new tablets, we can also expect new accessories as well as new iPad Air offshoots and a new MacBook (via MacRumors).
The new iPad Air will probably come in two sizes, iPad Pro with an OLED display
The iPad Air with a 12.9-inch screen is not only Mirco’s dream, but apparently should become a reality. This model could come onto the market in spring 2024 alongside the iPad Air with the traditional size of 10.9 inches.
In terms of price, the larger model will probably be between the iPad Pro with an 11-inch display (currently around 1,050 euros RRP) and the smaller Air offshoot (currently from 770 euros RRP).
Rumors about a possible price increase for the Pro models are already making the rounds. Apple could use the switch to OLED display technology as an opportunity to increase prices, which makes the pricing of the large Air model even more likely.
The advantages of such a display are obvious: deep black, rich contrast and bright colors. In addition, the OLED displays should be “sharper and brighter”.
According to Mark Gurman, the more expensive Pro models will be equipped with the current M3 chip, which is also used in the new MacBooks. The chip is based on 3-nanometer technology and brings graphical improvements compared to the M2 chip.
The two new Air models could therefore be equipped with the M2 chip that is used in the current Pro series.
In addition, Apple probably has two more irons in the fire: According to the report, a new iPad mini and the 11th generation iPad (standard model) will be released in 2024.
However, it is unclear whether these two tablets will come onto the market together with the Pro and Air series. The latter are expected at the end of March 2024.
New iPad accessories
Apple is not Apple if there are no new accessories for new devices. A new Magic Keyboard made of aluminum is expected for the Pro series, which is intended to convey a more “Mac feeling” since the trackpad is apparently larger.
The Cupertino manufacturer also seems to be working on a completely new third-generation Apple Pencil. The company had previously updated the existing stylus and added a USB-C port.
MacBook Air expected with M3 chip
As part of the iPad update, Apple’s mid-range notebooks will also receive new versions. Accordingly, the two 13- and 15-inch models should have the M3 chip installed.
So far it can be assumed that the MacBook Air models will be an iterative update that focuses primarily on the chip – similar to the new iMac in October.
The biggest release is likely to be Apple’s first mixed reality glasses “Vision Pro”, which is also planned for 2024.
Apple is likely to bring many new devices onto the market this spring, including the iPad Pro series with an OLED display. What do you think of this change?
