Spanish archaeologists on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria have tried to trace the origins of six skeletons found in a cave.
It turns out that the skeletons belong to six young men. The most puzzling part of this grisly discovery is that the men were tied up and covered in stones before meeting a gruesome end.
“They are not buried in the strict sense of the word … This is a burial practice that indicates very strong symbolic violence,” said Veronica Alberto, head of the exhumation. Right now, there doesn’t seem to be anything that could help lock down these men, and Alberto believes they could have lived somewhere between the 15th and 18th centuries.
Hopefully, when the radiocarbon test comes back from the bones, we can learn more about the truth behind this strange burial.
