UPDATE: Looks like Samsung won’t wait until next week for the release of OneUI 5.1 on the Galaxy S23. Phones have already started receiving the software update. The OTA package is 2GB and will be coming to all phones in the near future. Here’s the full list of changes:
Samsung has revealed when OneUI 5.1 will start rolling out to non-Galaxy S23 series devices as well. Models in the new flagship range include the new software pre-installed from the factory, but models in last year’s high-end Galaxy S22 range won’t have to wait long to receive the update. It looks like the first to start receiving the update will be those in North America, towards the end of February.
Galaxy S22 and foldable models in 2022 will quickly get S23 series software
Everyone with phones in the Americas or Canada region of the Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 models will start receiving update notifications on February 22. Most likely, internationally, OneUI 5.1 will debut on all of these devices in the weeks following this release.
Samsung has accustomed us over the past few years to very fast software updates, especially for recent generation flagships, but also for mid-range Galaxy A phones.
The OneUI 5.1 update, however, is a minor one compared to others. Already OneUI 5.0 was fairly recent and it was the one that brought Android 13 to Samsung devices. The new 5.1 update comes with small UI changes to a few pre-installed apps, a shortcut to Camera RAW directly from the camera app, the ability to share albums with family members in Gallery, and the ability to crop objects from photos with a simple tap on the screen.
The information was published on the Fido website, a Canadian telecom operator, which lists the S22 and Fold4/Flip4 models in the table of Samsung devices to be updated. Most likely, all operators in the region are working on the same release schedule, and the network-free models could receive the update simultaneously, although previously such devices were updated even earlier.
