The Russian authorities have confirmed this Saturday more than 200,000 cases of coronavirus in the last hours, a threshold that was exceeded for the first time the day before, in the midst of a rebound driven by the omicron variant.
The national operational center for the fight against the coronavirus has pointed out that during the last 24 hours 203,766 infections and 729 deaths have been registered, which places the total figures at 13,935,560 and 339,542, respectively.
The capital, Moscow, has been the city that has reported the most cases during the last day, with about 14,330. Also, 84 of the 85 regions of the country – all except Chukotka (northeast) – have registered cases of the omicron variant.
Likewise, 112,658 people have received medical discharge during the last 24 hours, bringing the number of recovered from COVID-19 in Russia to 11,134,291, as reported by the Russian news agency Sputnik.
For its part, the National Office for Consumer Protection (Rospotrebnadzor) has indicated that some 1.9 million people are under observation as suspected cases of contagion, a figure that on Wednesday reached 4.5 million.
