Russia exceeds 180,000 coronavirus infections in a single day for the first time

The Russian authorities have confirmed this Sunday for the first time more than 180,000 cases of coronavirus in one day, in the midst of a rebound that has led the country to beat historical figures during the last week.

Experts attribute this rebound to the spread of the omicron variant throughout the country, right now in its worst moment of the pandemic.

The city of Saint Petersburg is the one that has registered the most daily cases, with 21,4448 new cases, while cases of the omicron have been confirmed in 84 of the 85 regions of the Eurasian country, according to estimates collected by the official Russian news agency. Sputnik.

According to the national consumer protection office, Rospotrebnadzor, more than 262.1 million coronavirus tests have been carried out to date, including more than 1.1 million during the past day.
