American media personality Paris Hilton has long expressed her love for the metaverse. The 41-year-old socialite has come up with a new concept that will be launched on The Sandbox and is called Parisland.
Parisland by Paris Hilton will be a platform for her fans to find love in the metaverse and will be presented as a dating experience.
In a statement from Sandbox COO and co-founder Sebastien Borget, Parisland’s design was conceived to foster real relationships and interactions with players. It was designed in collaboration with Hilton’s 11:11 Media. Cynthia Miller, the company’s head of Web3 strategy and metaverse, believes that users will be able to form strong, organic and romantic bonds during the experience, and reiterates that the goal is to enable people to find love.
The Sandbox is being developed by Polygon and several celebrities like rapper Snoop Dogg and electronic musician deadmau5 are buying up expensive virtual land in the metaverse to open their own businesses. One interesting thing about The Sandbox is that while it may seem that the entire metaverse is geared towards children, the terms and conditions clearly state that users must be over the age of eighteen.
Sandbox runs on the native ERC-20 SAND token, which has been trending down 85% over the past year, but up 42% in the past month.
Web3 dating seems to be a rather new and intriguing concept as people start to get saturated with the tedious swiping games of Tinder and Bumble. However, there have been several reports of the callous harassment that may be taking place in the Metaverse. Data from the Center for Countering Digital Hate estimates that “violent incidents” occur in a VR chat once every seven minutes.
Paris Hilton, who also happens to be the great-granddaughter of Hilton Hotels founder Conrad Hilton, had previously partnered with Roblox to launch Paris World. It is a virtual ecosystem created for Hilton’s Halloween that was titled “Paris World”.Cryptoween“. It also allowed users to try virtual makeup looks from L’oréal’s Urban Decay brand. Hilton also introduced a Cryptoween experience in the Sandbox.
This latest collaboration takes Hilton’s partnership with Sandbox to another level after introducing Malibu Mansion in August of last year. The digital space allows Hilton to connect with its fans in the metaverse by hosting social events. The celebrity’s association with Sandbox dates back a few months when the company gave him an official Sandbox avatar and fashion, music and animal-themed LAND packages.
