OSOM V1 has been delayed, but the phone will receive a better processor

OSOM, the company founded by former members of the Essential team, announces only a few months after the unveiling of its first phone that it will be delayed on the market. However, it seems that the delay will come with a hardware upgrade. Originally scheduled to be presented at the Mobile World Congress, the presentation of the phone has been moved for the summer of this year, and the launch will be pushed from the third quarter to the end of 2022.

OSOM V1 will benefit from flagship hardware

OSOM seems to want to continue the idea behind Essential, which is high-performance phones with quality software at affordable prices. OSOM V1, their first phone, will focus on data security, with the company promising to deliver it with a Secure Data Cable that includes a special chip that won’t allow you to access data on your phone when you upload it from sources unknown.

At the hardware level, it will come with a Snapdragon 8 series processor, probably the Gen 1 model that is now found on flagships, or maybe even a newer revision, given that the phone will be launched sometime later this year . Maybe by then we will see a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+, as we have become accustomed to in recent years. Initially, the phone was programmed to use Snapdragon 888. Other interesting features include support for two SIM cards, the presence of an Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) module, which could allow the use of digital keys to open cars or locks at home, and more accurate finding of the lost phone.

The construction will be made of titanium and Gorilla Glass Victus, while the back will be ceramic. This will ensure scratch resistance. OSOM promises more than a day’s autonomy for the V1 model and “flagship” cameras with 48 and 12 megapixel sensors on the back, respectively. In terms of software, OSOM builds on the team experience of Essential, where updates sometimes came faster than those from Google for Pixel models. The promised update support is four years (3 system and 4 security), but it is not excluded to offer longer support if the OSOM V1 phone proves to be popular over time.
