New information about the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Fold5 leaked on the internet. Next year we could see “Ultra” foldable models

Now that Samsung has successfully moved on from the launch of the Galaxy S23 series, information is starting to emerge about the company’s next big smartphone lineup: foldables. It looks like 2023 will be a year for relatively minor changes in the foldable area for Samsung, but in 2024 we could see the real news in the form of Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold “Ultra” models.

Samsung prepares to expand the foldable area in new directions

According to a Twitter leaker, Samsung is preparing new foldables for the coming years. The Galaxy Z Fold Ultra will adopt a new 4K foldable screen produced by Samsung, and the lower “classic” Fold models will remain on QHD screens, but produced by BOE. The Flip Ultra, on the other hand, will switch to 2K screen with Samsung panel and keep a cheaper, “standard” Flip version with Full HD screen from BOE. Information is also emerging about the Galaxy Z Flex, a device that folds twice, and the Galaxy Z Tab, a foldable tablet. These rumors are not, however, published by a source with a long reputation for confirmed leaks, so we’d have to wait for details from other sources before forming an idea about these possible new devices.

We’ve already seen rumors the other day that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will not integrate an S-Pen stylus, as previously expected. It looks like Samsung will save this feature for a higher-end model, probably the Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra, which might not debut until next year.

In 2023, the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5 will bring design changes

However, the Fold5 could be significantly thinner than the current Fold4. This will be possible thanks to a new, more compact hinge design that will allow the screen to close the two halves seamlessly without a noticeable gap between them. This will be made possible by swapping the fold in half for a teardrop-shaped loop, as we’ve already seen on late smartphones. The information comes from leaker IceUniverse. Similar information was also reported by the South Korean publication Naver News last weeks.

Sam Mobile has published information about the storage capacities of the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 models. Apparently these will follow the configurations of the S23 and S23 Ultra models. So we’ll have the Galaxy Z Flip5 in 128, 256 and 512GB variants, with the base model equipped with UFS 3.1 storage, versus 4.0 on the higher end. The Galaxy Z Fold5 variants will offer 256, 512 and 1TB internal storage. The Flip model will also get a larger exterior screen, similar to the one on the Oppo N2 Flip.
