God of War Ragnarok may have been the end of the series’ Nordic saga, but it is clearly far from the end for God of War as a whole. Given the critical and commercial success the series continues to enjoy, it’s safe to assume that it won’t be too long before developer SIE Santa Monica Studio begins work on what comes next for the franchise. Indeed, work on that may already be underway.
This emerges from several recently posted job postings by the studio, particularly vacancies for positions related to combat, which indicate that the next installment of the series is in development. Under their “requirements” section, job postings for Combat Designer, Sr Combat Designer and Sr Combat Designer (Companions) all state that applicants must have “knowledge of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok,” suggesting that the next God of War game may be in development.
With God of War Ragnarok less than a year old, details about the next step in the series are scarce, but given that last year’s game was the final installment of its Nordic saga, it is safe to assume that the next installment will be set in a new mythological setting. Shortly after the launch of Ragnarok, director Eric Williams also said that DLC was unlikely, so Santa Monica Studio’s next God of War project will most likely be an entirely new game.
