Michael Saylor said the company’s balance sheet now contains 130,000 bitcoins, with the company’s stash being the largest number of bitcoins held by a publicly traded company today.
Microstrategy acquires more bitcoins at an average price of $19,851 per coin
Tuesday, Michael Saylor announced that Microstrategy acquired 301 BTC for $6 million and the company paid an average price of $19,851 per coin. It’s been a long time since Microstrategy bought bitcoin and the last time it acquired BTC was in late June. At the time, the company bought “about 480 bitcoins for about $10.0 million in cash.“

The June 28 purchase brought Microstrategy’s bitcoin count to 1.5 million BTC, the reserve increased to 129,699 bitcoins and the 301 bitcoins acquired this week bring the company’s bitcoin count to 130,000 BTC. “Microstrategy purchased an additional 301 bitcoins for ~$6.0 million at an average price of ~$19,851 per bitcoin“, Saylor wrote on Tuesday. The Microstrategy executive chairman added:

Currently, no other publicly traded company holds as many bitcoins as Microstrategy. However, the trustee in the Mt. Gox bankruptcy case reportedly has 141,686 BTC that will be distributed to creditors at some point. Publicly traded Galaxy Digital Holdings is second only to Microstrategy, with about 40,000 BTC held on its balance sheet.
As far as private entities go, there are two caches of BTC held by private organizations that hold more BTC than Microstrategy and one of them is Mt. Gox. Block and the team behind EOS which holds about 140,000 BTC according to buybitcoinworldwide.com. Following Microstrategy’s purchase of 301 bitcoins, a number of people have commented on the company’s recent acquisition.
