The leader of the far-right Brothers of Italy (FdI) party, Giorgia Meloni, winner of the elections held this Sunday, has assured Ukraine that she will be able to count on the full support of the incoming government in the country.
“You know that you can count on our loyal support for the cause of freedom of the Ukrainian people.Stay strong and keep the faith!” she has expressed on her Twitter social network account, in a message addressed to the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski.
This message from Meloni is a response to an earlier message from Zelenski in which he congratulated the candidate and her party for the result in the recent elections held.
Zelenski, moreover, had thanked “Italy’s continued support for Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.” “We count on a fruitful collaboration with the new Italian government,” the Ukrainian leader had added.
The hitherto Italian Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, has clearly shown his support for Kiev since the beginning of the war. In the same sense Meloni has previously expressed himself, who has strongly condemned Russia.
However, Matteo Salvini’s League and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia, the two political parties with which Meloni aspires to form a government, take the opposite view. Salvini would have criticized the sanctions against Moscow and Berlusconi has been a friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin for years.
