MediaTek launches Dimensity 7200, a 4nm augmented chipset optimized for low-cost gaming

In the low-cost range, but benefiting from a 4nm manufacturing node, the Dimensity 7200 is an even more affordable version of the Dimensity 8200, already launched for more demanding mid-range phones.

Aided with an AI co-processor for increased photo capabilities, plus a GPU with gaming affinities, the Dimensity 7200 promises a consistent performance leap over previous generations of chipsets.

The new MediaTek solution includes an octa-core CPU with two Cortex A75 main cores, aided by six more Cortex-A510 cores optimized for efficiency. Thus, the main processing cluster reaches 2.8GHz and the next six stop at 2.0GHz. Compared to the mid-range solution, the Dimensity 8200, the differences are considerable. The GPU unit is powered by a Mali-G610 MC4 core, which MediaTek says will deliver competent gaming performance.

On the short list of improvements are Bluetooth LE Audio connectivity and support for synchronous stereo wireless playback to multiple devices simultaneously. But these are new connectivity standards rather than real innovations. The offering continues with support for HDR video capture and HyperEngine 5.0 for AI-based Variable Rate Shading (VRS) technology.
