Lego used to be a much, much simpler idea. Before the Danish company turned to making Titanic models too big to fit on a shelf or Super Star Destroyers more than a meter long, it was once active in small-scale sets. In the spirit of this, Lego has been expanding its House exclusive lineup for a while now, using this as a way to pay homage to the past by taking former sets and bringing them to modern times. There are currently five sets available, but it will soon be expanded to include a sixth that pays homage to the Fabuland series from the 1980s.
The Lego Fabuland Tribute is a small set of only 1,026 pieces. It will attempt to capture the magic of Fabuland by letting builders build a diorama featuring Edward Elephant, Joe Crow, Dr. Lucy Lamb and Clive Crocodile, and it will go on sale starting March 1. The main snag is that to grab this set you have to go to the Lego Store at Lego House in Denmark, as it will be sold exclusively here at a price of DKK 649 (about £70).
About what Lego wants to achieve with this set, we are told by general manager Kathrine Kirk Muff: “This year we pay tribute to the history of storytelling with the exclusive product of Fabuland. Creating stories is at the core of LEGO House and celebrating the most iconic moments in LEGO Group history is key to the concept of our exclusive products. Personally, I have played a lot with the original Fabuland sets, and I am filled with nostalgia and excitement to see my childhood memories brought back to life.”
