Xiaomi is known for a wide range of technology, be it phones and tablets or even smart home gadgets. The Chinese technology giant is now branching out into the field of electric vehicles as well, as at a recent EV Technology Launch event, Xiaomi lifted the curtain on what is called the SU7 car.
This EV model is described as a “full-size high-performance eco-technology sedan”, one that aims to “pushing the boundaries of performance, ecosystem and mobile smart space.” This may seem like a big claim, but Xiaomi also goes further, adding that it plans to become one of the top five global automakers in the next 15 to 20 years, and using its expertise in other technology sectors, plans to “completely redefine the auto industry.”
In addition to the SU7, Xiaomi showed glimpses of new EV technology it has been working on, including two V6s and a single V8 engine that goes by the name of the HyperEngine E-motors. In addition, the new battery technology that will power these cars claims to offer a 24.4% performance improvement over other batteries, while having a theoretical range of up to 1,200 km.
Xiaomi’s upcoming cars will also feature autonomous driving systems and a smart cabin with a 16.1-inch 3K center console, a whopping 56-inch HUD screen and a 7.1-inch rotating dashboard. The OS system even supports the use of more than 5,000 applications.
It is unclear when the SU7 will make its full debut, but Xiaomi has stated that the car will have a top speed of 265 km/h and 0-100 km/h acceleration of 2.78 seconds.
