Lando Norris gets behind the wheel of a working full-size Lego Technic McLaren P1 -.

Lego and McLaren have been two birds of a feather in recent years, with the Danish block-building company building McLaren’s supercars and Formula One cars. Now they have significantly stepped up their efforts.

Lego has created a working full-size McLaren P1 from Lego Technic parts. A total of 342,817 individual Technic elements were required to complete the task, with the model powered by an electric motor and offering working controls that Formula One driver Lando Norris put to good use when testing the model around the Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom.

This model is actually so special that it is the first major build Lego has ever made that is capable of steering and driving a complete lap around a race track. Lego never mentioned the model’s lap time, but it did confirm that it took 8,344 hours to design and build, that 23 specialists from Lego and McLaren collaborated on the project and that it weighed 1,220 kg, with dimensions of 4.98 m long, 2.101 m wide and 1.133 m high.

Lego will (thankfully) not sell this set, as it would probably cost you at least several thousand pounds.
