Joe Biden lands in London to attend the funeral of Elizabeth II

The president of the United States, Joe Biden and the first lady, Jill Biden have landed at 22.00 hours (local time) on Saturday at Stanstead airport located on the outskirts of London to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, as reported by the White House.

Upon descending from Air Force One, the Biden couple was greeted by the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, T. H. Jane Hartley and her husband, Ralph Schlosstein, the King’s representative in Essex, Jennifer Tolhurst, and the Foreign Secretary’s special representative, Nicholas Jarrold.

Then, at 10:18 p.m. (local time), the President and First Lady embarked on an hour-long road trip to central London.

The state funeral will take place next Monday 19 and will be attended by about 2,000 guests. However, according to the government, the funeral, which will take place at 7.30 p.m., will be a private ceremony.

The remains of Elizabeth II will rest next to those of her husband, Prince Philip, who died in April 2021 and was initially buried in a temporary grave pending the death of the queen.
