Jair Bolsonaro and Lula da Silva close election campaign on the day before the elections

The two main candidates for the presidency of Brazil, current president Jair Bolsonaro and former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva have put an end to the electoral campaign this Saturday in the streets of Sao Paulo, one day before the first round of the elections is held.

Da Silva, favorite according to the latest polls, has traveled Augusta Street on a van surrounded by his followers and accompanied by the candidate for the government of the state of Sao Paulo, Fernando Haddad, according to the newspaper ‘Brasil de Fato’.

At the event, different flags of the LGTBI collective as well as of different unions could be seen, although the flags of the Workers’ Party have starred the scene which was also attended by feminist and black activist collectives.

For his part, Bolsonaro has closed the pre-campaign by participating in a motorcycle rally in the Campo de Bagatelle square, after which he has taken pictures with his supporters next to the gubernatorial candidate Tacísio de Freitas.

Local media have reported that the president carried a bag with a picture of opposition candidate Da Silva behind bars, to which his supporters responded with chants expressing “Lula thief, your place is in prison!”.

The poll released this Saturday and developed by Ipec gives victory to Da Silva with 51 percent of the votes, a result that would be enough to avoid having to go to a second round. On the other hand, Bolsonaro would obtain only 37 percent of the votes, while Simone Tebet and Ciro Games would be equal with five percent of the votes.

More than 156 million Brazilians are called to the polls this Sunday, October 2, in which, in addition to designating the new President of the Republic, they must elect the governors of the 27 federative entities of the country, as well as the complete renewal of the Chamber of Deputies, part of the Senate and the representatives of the state legislative assemblies.
