Update as of August 24, 2024: Matching the warm Weather we have re-uploaded the article.
Oh my, a completely normal fan. Do you remember? Things like this used to exist before. Before the market was flooded with expensive devices that were supposed to do more than just move air.
Some pedestal fans now cost several hundred eurosI’ve been told. Because of night modes and app functions and other things that I admittedly haven’t looked into at all – because I don’t need them. And air conditioning has never really been my thing, especially since it usually costs a bit more.
I just wanted a simple pedestal fanto blow on me at my desk. One like the one I had in my first apartment. One that comes in white, maybe black at the most. With four buttons for off, low wind, medium wind and high wind. Finito!
Above all, I did not seewhy I should spend a lot of money on the simple task that the device has to perform for me. The search for it turned out to be surprisingly challenging, because of course I didn’t want to buy junk.
Fans that cost well over 100 euros seem to be the norm these days and I wonder if I’m really in the minority with my desire for simplicity.
Don’t get me wrong: I am sure that even expensive fans have their place. People and needs are different. In my case, however, I had to search for quite a long time to find something under 30 euros that was still of good quality.
If you buy cheap, you buy four times – and that’s a good thing
I found a pedestal fanof which I now own four. I paid less than 100 euros for all four together. Some other models cost as much or more individually. I have had two of the fans for about a year now.
From time to time I had to put the plastic socks of the feet back on if I handled them too roughlybecause they slipped off the metal base. This usually happened when I was carrying the devices from one room across the house, up the stairs, into another and bumping into something here and there.
But otherwise both devices still work perfectly and do what they are supposed to: move air.
The first two devices are in the office and the bedroom – the two most important rooms for this, in my opinion. In the office I have to sit for eight hours a day and keep a cool head. The fact that my workplace on the upper floor faces south makes this difficult.
And in the bedroom, which is also on the upper floorI recover during my night’s sleep. This is also extremely important, also from a health perspective. At the moment, thanks to fan number 2, I have enough wind around my ears to sleep through.
No more carrying fans around
Already last summer But I was increasingly annoyed that I had to keep carrying the wind makers around and repositioning them. There was a lack of other devices, especially in the playroom and the kitchen.
The two existing fans in midsummer at over 30 degrees Having to constantly maneuver it through the narrow hallway and up the stairs was anything but fun. But it was almost unbearable without it.
A Commander game of MtG or a round Mythic Battles: Ragnarök
can take a little longer. And in the kitchen, the stove, oven, etc. already generate a lot of heat. In short: additional fans were needed for the ground floor.
So the other two devices were added this summer and I’m absolutely happy with it. All four devices do what they’re supposed to do. I don’t need any special functions, I just want to get some wind around my ears without having to constantly carry a single device around two floors.
Now all four have a fixed place: One still in the office, one in the bedroom, one in the playroom and one in the kitchen. I have no regrets bought cheaply
and I think that more expensive does not always automatically mean better.
Anyone interested in such devicesshould always first check what he or she actually needs and what he or she expects from it. Simply buying a high-priced model does not guarantee that you will be satisfied with it.
I read comparison tests before I decided on this modelThe fact that plastic is used here and there and that the device is not necessarily the most stable does not bother me personally. But I can imagine that not everyone would be as happy with it as I am.
There are certainly other good products in a similar price category and in many shops. The range is varied and that’s a good thing. So take your time and don’t let anyone talk you into anything you don’t need.
What is your opinion on fans? Do you tend to use luxury models or do you do it like me? If you own one or more expensive fans: Why did you choose them and which functions or features were crucial for you? Or are you not really into fans in general? Let me know in the comments.
