Haiti’s Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) has informed the public of a new cholera outbreak in the country, after reporting a confirmed case and announcing that it is studying several suspected cases.
“The Ministry informs the population of the detection of a confirmed case of cholera in Savane Pistache in the Port-au-Prince area and suspected cases in Brooklyn, in Cité Soleil,” reads the communiqué signed Saturday by the ministerial portfolio.
“The MSPP is counting on the collaboration of the population while taking the necessary measures to contain this outbreak: active community search for similar cases, case management, community response,” the cabinet added.
In this regard, the Haitian government has asked citizens to take measures to prevent the spread of the virus, including washing hands, drinking clean water and defecating in modern toilets.
In the event that any individual presents symptoms compatible with the disease, the Ministry insists that one should go to the nearest health center to treat the disease.
