Hack: Bitrue exchange stripped of $23M in cryptocurrencies

Bitruea crypto-currency exchange platform Asian crypto-currency exchange, has been the victim of a hacking. 23 million dollars in ETH, SHIB or again MATIC were stolen from one of its hot wallets.

This Friday, the crypto exchange Bitrue reported that it suffered a hack that allowed the attacker to steal approximately 23 million dollars in various cryptocurrencies.

The hacking took place this morning around 9am on one of the hot wallets used by the platform founded in Singapore in 2018.

We were able to resolve this issue quickly and prevent any further exploitation of the funds. We are taking this matter seriously and are currently investigating the situation. The attackers were able to withdraw assets worth approximately $23 million in the following currencies: ETH, QNT, GALA, SHIB, HOT and MATIC.” wrote Bitrue.

The exchange claims that the amount of stolen funds represents less than 5% of its total reserves and that its other portfolios have not been compromised.

The press release states that the withdrawals are stopped until April 18 to allow time for the company to perform extensive safety checks.

Recently, hackers also managed to siphon off the hot wallet of another Asian crypto exchange. On Monday, the South Korean GDAX announced that it had lost the equivalent of 13 million dollars in tokens.
