Google weather forecast gets new interface

Virtually unchanged in recent years, the card-based interface used to display the weather forecast is getting notable improvements, with Google optimising the formula by which weather updates are displayed.

Announced with a message of the form “New! A fresh look for weather that gives you more details about your forecast”, the new interface puts key details like temperature and wind chill in the top-left corner of the screen. On the right-hand side, precipitation chances, humidity and wind speed are highlighted. Indicated with three vertical dots, the configuration menu in the top-right corner allows you to set the temperature unit used.

Below we can find the “Overview”, divided into four tabs detailing the weather forecast for the next 24 hours, using upgraded icons. Beyond the tab with information on temperature and how clear the sky will be, the other sections provide information on precipitation, wind and humidity.

At the bottom of the screen is a second carousel, detailing the weather forecast for the next 10 days.

Although Google has made changes to the display, it has not changed the source of the weather information, which is still delivered by the weather.com portal.

Perhaps the long-delayed launch of the new weather interface is not due to any omission on Google’s part, but to a lack of objections from users, who would probably have been just as happy with the current presentation.
