It’s been 12 years since we last got an entry in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. A Dance With Dragons, the last book, left us with several cliffhangers that the TV adaptation then had to deal with. While we have seen the disastrous ending of that HBO series, Martin continues to type away his own conclusion to his books.
Winds of Winter, the supposed penultimate entry, is being worked on almost every day, according to George R.R. Martin’s blog Not a Blog. “Yes, yes, of course, I’ve been working on Winds of Winter,” he said. Martin writes. “Almost every day. Writing, rewriting, editing, writing again. Making steady progress. Not as fast as I would like…. .certainly not as fast as YOU would like…. but progress nonetheless.”
On the one hand, it is understandable why George R.R. Martin would take a while to release this next book. Since Game of Thrones launched in 2010, there has been mounting pressure for the quality of the books the author releases, and to meet the demands of fans must be an impossible feat.
On the other hand… really George, 12 years and you’ve been at it every day? It gets harder to believe that the work on this book exists as time goes on, and the day we will see it published is nothing more than A Dream of Spring. There is a person at the heart of this, someone who doesn’t deserve the hate spewed by so-called fans, but also someone who if they could write a little faster, that would be great.
Do you think we will see winter winds in our lifetime?
