Games to look for – July 2024 -.

Summer Game Fest is well and truly over, and now we are in the dormant period of the season where temperatures are soaring and we wait expectantly for Gamescom in late August. Where July can often be very barren in regards to new launches, this year we have a decent array of promising games making their debut, from anticipated expansions to narrative adventures, to retro collections and action RPGs, to various sports options and strategy experiences. There’s a lot to look forward to in July, so with that in mind, let’s dive into this next chapter of Games To Look For.

The First Descendant (PC, PS5, Xbox Series) – July 2

The month kicks off with Nexon’s big action shooter The First Descendant. This game is all about teaming up with friends to use a collection of powerful characters and weapons to destroy and overcome dangerous opponents. It is the next big title to be called a Destiny killer because of its apparent similarities to Bungie’s MMO shooter, and will open its doors at the beginning of the month on July 2.

Anger Foot (PC) – July 11

The most ferocious and badass title of the month. Anger Foot is all about using your angry feet to kick and stomp the criminal menace of Shit City, all as part of a revenge plot after one of the ruling gangs steals your prized sneaker collection. Chaotic, action-packed, gritty and simple, this game is ideal for those looking for their next Hotline Miami fix.

This indie gem is all about exploring a colorful and peaceful land while riding a big bird, documenting and studying the wildlife that call it home along the way. It’s a steadier and more relaxing experience of living in the moment and will no doubt be perfect for those looking for something similar to Bugsnax this summer.

EvilVEvil (PC, PS5, Xbox Series) – July 16

The sun may rarely set, but that doesn’t mean summer isn’t an ideal time to bask in some vampiric goodness. Toadman Interactive plans to deliver its action-packed cooperative vampire power fantasy EvilVEvil in July, allowing fans to run and shoot and bite and claw their way through hordes of enemies without any regrets. With the game’s goal about determining the true intentions of a cruel cult leader, EvilVEvil seems to be the ideal game to satisfy your bloodthirsty urges this month.

Nobody Wants to Die (PC, PS5, Xbox Series) – July 17

Poland’s Critical Hit Games takes us on a journey to 24th-century New York City in the upcoming compelling noir thriller, Nobody Wants to Die. This game puts players in the shoes of Detective James Karra as he is tasked with solving the murder of the city’s elites, all with the help of his powerful Reconstructor device that allows him to piece together pieces of a crime scene to find secrets and clues that would otherwise remain hidden from the naked eye. Fans of adventure and mystery will no doubt have Nobody Wants to Die high on their wish list.

Dungeons of Hinterberg (PC, Xbox Series) – July 18

It’s not always easy to go on vacation in the summer, but luckily Microbird Games is here to provide a solution. The indie developer will transport players to the Alps in their upcoming Dungeons of Hinterberg, an action-adventure RPG that revolves around exploring the environment, defeating dangerous monsters and solving puzzles to conquer the complex dungeons from which the game takes its namesake. With a striking art style, a smooth snowboarding movement system and several colorful locals to meet, you won’t want to miss this delightful indie.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn (PC, PS5, Xbox series) – July 18

It has become a bit of a trend to combine action-RPG gameplay with killing gods. We can thank God of War for that. The folks at A44 Games put their own unique spin on the format in Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, a title in which players vanquish the gods and their armies of undead after their arrival from the Great Below. Combining Nor’s fast-paced and highly mobile action and skills with the skills of fox-like companion Enki, here you must use magic and power to save the city of Dawn from destruction.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition (Switch) – July 18

Nintendo may offer a variety of NES, SNES, GameCube, Game Boy and additional titles from older formats through its Switch Online subscription, but for those looking for a more challenging experience that puts your speedrunning skills to the test, there is one title that stands out in July. Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition brings together more than 150 challenges from 13 NES titles and challenges you to beat them as fast as you can and earn your place on a global leaderboard. This is truly a dream for speedrunners.

EA Sports College Football 25 (PS5, Xbox Series) – July 19

American college football isn’t very popular outside the U.S., but that doesn’t mean this game isn’t compelling nonetheless. After years of waiting, EA is once again tapping the college scene to create a Madden-like sports title featuring the most promising athletes of tomorrow’s NFL. Coming only to consoles, this game takes players to some of the biggest and most exciting college stadiums in the U.S. to play as athletes from 134 available teams.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series) – July 19

Capcom’s next big game takes players back to Japan’s Edo period to experience an unusual hybrid of hack ‘n’ slash action and strategic tower defense. Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is all about using a masked hero to defend the luminous Goddess of the Mountain while cleansing corruption and freeing tormented wildlife and locals from its clutches. Launching on the first day Game Pass, this is definitely a title to check out if you have access to the subscription.

F1 Manager 2024 (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch) – July 23

The sequel to Frontier’s simulation series once again tasks players with taking on the role of team boss in the world of Formula One. Expected to lead the team and make crucial decisions about development, finances, driver and staff, and car strategies on race day, this game is all about the off-track decisions and challenges required to run an F1 organization. This year’s iteration adds a few more mechanics and systems to make your life just that little bit harder, including staff and driver morale and mechanical failures. Needless to say, don’t expect a free ride this year.

That’s the end of another month of Games To Look For. Be sure to check back in a few weeks when we see what August brings to the table for gamers around the world.
