Formula One and Lego teamed up to brickify the parade of drivers from the Miami Grand Prix -.

Prior to every Grand Prix on the Formula One calendar, there is what is known as a drivers’ parade, in which each of the 20 drivers travels around the track, waving to fans, and usually all while riding in a fancy and classic open-top car. For this year’s Miami Grand Prix, this was not quite the case, as as part of the ongoing collaboration with Lego, the two combined to brickify the usual tradition.

During the parade, the 20 drivers got into 10 replica Lego F1 cars, with one driver getting behind the wheel while the other sat behind them as a co-driver. Each of the cars was made to represent each of the teams and they even set off in a kind of racing fashion where the teams wrestled and fought, even damaging the models at the same time.

Lego has since noted that each car weighed about 1,500 kg and was built from over 400,000 bricks, while still being able to reach a top speed of 20 mph. They even used real and authentic Pirelli F1 tires.

It is unclear whether we will see these cars in action again at some point, but F1 chief commercial officer Emily Prazer teased the following:

“As a sport synonymous with innovation and pushing boundaries, it was great to see another first for our sport as the big builds made their way around the track in the hands of the world’s best drivers. Our partnership with the LEGO Group allows us to bring a lot of fun to the Grand Prix experience and appeal to new audiences, and we can’t wait to see what else we can come up with together.”
