Even before announcing an offer to buy Twitter, Elon Musk had big plans for the social network. Ever since his offer to buy the network for $ 43 billion was accepted, he has been providing details on how he plans to improve the user experience, as well as the company’s profits. It looks like Twitter will try to attract a lot of new users, while paid subscriptions will be more aggressively promoted.
Elon Musk’s plans for Twitter are expected to grow steadily in the coming years
By the end of 2021, Twitter had around 220 million monthly active users. Compared to the billions of Facebook, Instagram or TikTok users, this number seems quite small. The truth is that Twitter is very popular only in the US, while in other countries it is a more niche network. According to the new projections of Musk, under his leadership, the number of users could increase fourfold in the next 6 years.
He says in the documents he submitted for the acquisition that he plans to reach 600 million monthly active users by 2025, and to reach 930 million by 2028. Also, in the next 6 years, Musk expects to have 104 million paying subscribers. However, it is not clear what these subscriptions will offer.
This may be a paid area of the network, accessible only to certain users, or access to certain network benefits that non-payers have, such as removing ads. It could also be about charging companies and politicians for posting on Twitter.
What is certain is that Musk expects Twitter to earn $ 26.4 billion a year in 2028, five times more than it did in 2021 ($ 5 billion). The increase would come from new sources of income, as 90% of the money now comes from advertising. Musk’s projections say that by 2028, only 45% of revenue would come from advertising. In 2028, 12 billion would be advertising revenue and 10 billion subscriptions.
