Donetsk pro-Russian authorities claim 290 civilians killed in Ukrainian attacks during invasion

Authorities in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), in eastern Ukraine and akin to Russia, have denounced Friday that 290 civilians, including 17 children, have been killed and nearly 2,900 injured in Ukrainian attacks since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24.

Ukrainian forces have since then carried out some 7,300 shellings resulting in the impact of some 59,300 projectiles on the territory controlled by separatist forces, including 31 missiles, according to the balance sheet of the DPR Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire. Among the wounded, the agency adds, there are about 190 children.

In terms of material damage, the pro-Russian authorities are aware of damage to some 6,100 residential buildings and some 1,300 civilian infrastructures, including 266 schools, 82 medical centers and 467 energy and water supply facilities.

The United Nations, for its part, has recorded 251 dead and 992 wounded in the territories controlled by pro-Russian forces in Donetsk and in the also separatist republic of Lugansk, also in eastern Ukraine, since the beginning of the invasion, according to its latest balance sheet published on August 1.
