Diesel cars disappear from Romania. Romanian drivers prefer something else, and this can be seen on the roads

Diesel cars are currently on the verge of extinction in our country. This niche has lost quite a bit of ground lately, both in Romania and in other European Union countries.

Diesel engines currently reach 15.3% in the profile market, according to data from registrations published by APIA. As proof, in January of this year we are talking about only 13.9%, ie a percentage even lower than in the case of electric or hybrid engines.

Gasoline cars continue to be the favorite of Romanian drivers

Obviously, gasoline cars continue to be the favorite of Romanians, so registrations have increased from 60.8%, which was the percentage in 2021, to 67.3% in January and February of the year in course. The highest level was recorded in January, namely 68.2%, ie we are talking, in this case, about a real record. In the second month, the percentages were a bit more balanced, however.

Electric cars are also getting better, with a share of 17.4%, which, we must admit, is not bad at all. The same can be said for hybrid cars.

Now, in Romania, Dacia Spring is the best, with 315 units sold this year alone. In second place is VW, then Hyndai and Tesla.

In the category of PHEV cars, the leader is Mercedes-Benz, with several models sold, the top being Ford Kuga. In the full-hybrid segment, Toyota is in first place with the C-HR, Corolla and RAV4 models.

In the future, the figures for diesel cars may be declining more and more, so that at some point they will end up disappearing from our country roads, but also from other European countries and, why not, even from non-European countries.
