Buenos Aires governor dismisses security chief for Boca-Gimnasia game

The Governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, has admitted mistakes in the security operation of the match between Boca and Gimnasia on Thursday in which a fan lost his life and has ordered the removal from office of commissioner Juan Corbarán, responsible for ensuring security at the stadium.

Kicillof has asked the Buenos Aires Security Minister, Sergio Beni to remove him from his post in order to facilitate the investigation of the prosecutor Martín Almirón, who is trying to clarify who is responsible for what happened, as reported by the agency Télam.

In addition to one dead, the event also ended with several injured, eight of whom are still hospitalized, after police officers used tear gas and fired a prolonged burst of rubber balls.

A probable over-sale of tickets would have provoked these events when many gymnastics fans and members, with their tickets in hand, as Télam has been able to verify, tried to enter the stadium when its facilities were already full.
