BMW is relaunching a well-known model: when will you be able to buy the new X7

BMW’s flagship crossover gets a refresh that includes more power, sportier design and improved technology.

The X7 gets an updated front end – plus a new-looking M Sport package, 23-inch light-alloy wheels and a curved screen.

The three-row utility vehicle with seven occupants can compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLS, Audi Q7 and Land Rover Range Rover.

The X7 is expected to bring in additional sales for BMW as consumers continue to migrate from cars to crossovers and SUVs.

The segment of large premium SUVs in Europe has grown by 2.5% in 2021 to 269,631, according to Dataforce figures. The X7, which saw a 6.5-year drop in sales last year to 5,254 units, ranked 15th in the segment.

Competitors in the high-end seven-passenger market are few, but they are fighting hard for every buyer, said Sam Fiorani, vice president of AutoForecast Solutions.

“There are very high-income families who spend a lot of money on their vehicles,” Fiorani said. “At this price, happy families are easier to keep in the showroom year after year than to earn sales from a rival brand.”

New look

The latest X7 introduces a split headlight design – what the brand calls a premiere for any BMW model. The two LED units mounted on top of each side of the front glow from the narrow glass covers like daytime running lights. The lights also function as signal indicators.

Two other LED units generate the dipped-beam headlamps in separate modules under the daytime running lights. The dark housing and the deep position in the front fascia give the modules the impression that they retract into the background and come to the fore only when activated.

The front-end design also updates BMW’s signature kidney grille. The illuminated grille is optional on the X7 xDrive40i. The lighting is activated when one of the doors is open and can be switched on or off manually.

The thin strips of L-shaped rear lights double as brake lights. The chrome bar that connects the two light units is enclosed in a glass cover.

The X7 dashboard is anchored by a curved stand-alone display that combines a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch center control screen to form a single driver-tilted unit.

The refurbished BMW X7 goes into production in August and reaches dealers in Europe and the US in the third quarter. It starts at 95,400 euros in Germany and $ 78,845, including shipping, in the United States
