Luxury carmaker Bentley has unveiled plans to build a new annual electric model for five years starting in 2025 after its annual profit skyrocketed as the British company relied on Volkswagen Group’s efforts to expand its electricity offerings.

Bentley, based in Crewe, England, made a profit of 389 million euros for 2021, compared to a profit of 20 million euros in the previous year, after deliveries increased by 31% to 14,659 cars , in strong demand for new hybrid models.

Global carmakers are redoubled their efforts to switch to electric models as more and more customers choose to switch to greener cars. The Volkswagen Group, which also includes Bentley, Europe’s largest carmaker, is stepping up its investment in energy infrastructure so that it can compete seriously with Tesla.

Bentley itself aims to be carbon neutral by 2030, after investing € 3 billion in its Crewe plant over a 10-year period to help make the transition.

“Growing demand for our hybrid models, backed by a € 3 billion sustainable investment in our Crewe plant, will ensure that we remain the leading manufacturer of sustainable luxury mobility,” said Jan-Henrik Lafrentz, a member of the finance council. and IT at Bentley.

The competition is not sleeping

Maserati will only sell all-electric cars from 2030 and will launch the last two new models with internal combustion engine variants in 2023.

CEO Davide Grasso said the luxury brand Stellantis will electrify faster than originally planned due to changing consumer tastes.

“We are seeing a strong acceleration in demand from our customers,” Grasso said. “I believe that any demand for internal combustion engines after 2030 will be residual,” he added.
