Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that authorities have summoned the U.S. chargé d’affaires in the country over Tuesday’s shooting at one of its diplomatic vehicles in Washington.
In a statement, the Azerbaijani authorities have indicated that the summoning is aimed at expressing the “grave concern” of the Azerbaijani government over what happened and to show its “disapproval” in this regard.
Thus, it has also asked the US authorities to “guarantee the security of the Azeri diplomatic mission” in the North American country and condemned “criminal acts carried out by radical forces in third countries.”
“Such actions are based on hatred and are aimed at Azeri diplomats and diplomatic missions abroad,” reads the text, which demands that measures be taken to “prevent such provocations in other countries.”
It has therefore indicated that attacks against diplomatic missions should be investigated to “keep these acts under control.”
