At least one person is dead and nine are missing after a seaplane crashed Sunday in the Puget Sound in the western U.S. state of Washington.
The body of one woman has been recovered, the ‘Seattle Times’ newspaper has learned, which has clarified that the preliminary report put the number of people on board the aircraft at eight adults and one child, but that the Coast Guard later updated the toll.
“A surface safety zone has been placed around the crash site,” the U.S. Coast Guard reported on its Twitter account.
The flight was en route from Friday Harbor, a popular tourist destination, to Seattle International Airport. The accident occurred in Mutiny Bay, about 66 kilometers from the city of Seattle.
Several Coast Guard assets and sheriff’s deputies from several counties have been deployed to the scene.
