Along with its new ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro gaming smartphones, ASUS has also announced a headphone prequel that fits perfectly with the new phones. Unlike other models on the market, which exclusively adopt the true wireless format, the Cetra True Wireless Pro offers a hybrid concept, being able to be used both in full wireless mode and attached to a cable. So you can have both the convenience of wireless use and the high performance of wired playback.
ROG Cetra True Wireless Pro are the first hybrid headphones of their kind
ASUS says the ROG Cetra True Wireless Pro are the first true wireless headphones to offer two connection modes. They benefit from Snapdragon Sound technology for low latency, which enables high quality audio playback with 24-bit 96 kHz sound. The headphones also come equipped with active ambient noise cancellation technology, which can recognize over 500 million types of noise, ASUS says, which would reduce 95% of ambient noise.
When the headphones are used wirelessly in “gaming” mode, they have a latency of only 45ms, but this is only promised for use with an ROG Phone 6. It’s not clear if it can deliver this performance with other devices.
The USB-C cable, which also provides access to volume buttons and a call button, integrates an ESS 9280 digital amplifier (DAC), which enables lossless playback with a signal-to-noise ratio of 130 dB. These capabilities should provide both a quality listening experience for music, but also extra accuracy in video games, allowing quick identification of the direction from which sounds are coming.
On top of all this, ASUS’ ROG Cetra True Wireless Pro headphones are also water resistant to the IPX4 standard. There’s also a non-pro Cetra True Wireless version, which doesn’t include cable connection functionality. For these, ASUS promises 27 hours of battery life.
