The 2022 iPad Pro refresh isn’t a major one, with Apple just replacing the M1 processor from previous models with the new M2 processor, released this summer. But it looks like 2023 will be the year that the “professional” tablet lineup gets its biggest upgrade yet, and we’re not necessarily talking about a performance upgrade. An iPad Pro model with an even bigger screen, around 16″, could be launched before the end of next year.
The 12.9″ iPad won’t be the biggest on offer for much longer
The idea of an even bigger iPad, perhaps a model to compete with the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, isn’t exactly new. We’ve heard rumors of such a model before, and some information suggested that a 16″ iPad Pro could come as early as this fall. Apple, however, seems to be in no rush to bring giant tablets to market, perhaps waiting to see user response to other such models to adjust the size and capabilities to what they need.
The 12.9″ iPad Pro is already considered giant, and a larger screen would probably be especially useful for artists who would need more space for drawing, 3D modeling or other such activities. If the new iPad comes next year, it could be equipped with a new, even more powerful processor, probably an Apple M3, which could provide good performance on a larger screen with significantly higher resolution.
It will be interesting to see how Apple positions this device, as already the new iPad Pro with the M2 jumps over $1,000 in the base version, and the top model comes in at over $3,000. An iPad with an even bigger screen could also be more expensive than a MacBook Air, which comes bundled with a full keyboard and a modern desktop operating system.
