Unless you’re on safari, it would be very strange to see a lion pass by your car. However, that is exactly what residents of Ladispoli, Italy, experienced recently, when an escaped circus lion tore through the streets.
The lion was spotted all over social media and Mayor Alessandro Grando warned residents to stay indoors and not approach the big cat while experts found a way to deal with it. According to Sky News, the lion was safely captured about five hours after it was first spotted.
“I hope this episode can stir a conscience and that we can finally end the exploitation of animals in circuses,” said the mayor. He added that he was not aware of a circus with lions in town, but even if he was, he did not have the power to prevent it.
