With a month to go until the release of Alan Wake 2, developer Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that the long-awaited survival horror sequel will have a Performance Mode option on consoles upon release.
Thomas Puha, communications director for Remedy, recently confirmed this in a tweet, stating that although Alan Wake 2 was designed from the beginning as a 30 FPS experience, it will still have a “solid” Performance Mode option.
“I am happy to say that Alan Wake 2 will have a Performance Mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X,” Puha wrote. “The game was built from the beginning as a 30 FPS experience with an emphasis on visuals and atmosphere, but somehow we managed to include a solid Performance Mode.”
Puha said Remedy will “discuss details later,” but when asked if Performance Mode will run the game at a fixed 60 FPS or at an unlocked frame rate that targets 60, he said the development team is “still tinkering with that.”
Interestingly, Puha did not mention the Xbox Series S version of the game, so it remains to be seen what the game’s performance and resolution goals will be on the console’s weaker hardware.
Alan Wake 2 will be released on Oct. 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
