As a forgetful person, I’m a fan of Apple’s AirTags. The idea of being able to find things that have been lost, disappeared or stolen simply appeals to me.
Unfortunately, I use Android privately and can’t really use Apple’s little finder with it in a meaningful way.
Luckily, there are a number of other providers that do work well with Android phones. I set out to find the best.
Before we really get into it, one thing first: Without an Apple device, there is no Apple Where is
. The function makes it possible to find AirTags over long distances.
Other iPhones are used, which pick up and forward the signal from the AirTag. With Android, on the other hand, in most cases we only have access to Bluetooth connections. However, some manufacturers also offer their own replacement solutions.
Are you more interested in the original from Apple? Then I recommend the following article by Linh:
Chipolo One: the colorful one
My first test candidate is an AirTag veteran: Chipolo was one of the first to jump on Apple’s AirTag trend. A special feature of the product: you can use it with both an iPhone and an Android cell phone. However, in both cases you are limited to Bluetooth.
Chipolo specifies the Bluetooth range as up to 60 meters, which is quite small compared to the other products. I also notice negatively that an advertising newsletter is supposed to be foisted on me as soon as I register. The corresponding box is already ticked.
The workmanship of the Chipolo, on the other hand, is of high quality and there is also a hole for hanging hooks or cords – however, each of the products presented here fulfills these categories, so there are no bonus points for the Chipolo One.
The color selection is more convincing. The tracker is not only available in subtle black or white, but also in four other colors: blue, green, red and yellow.
In terms of price, the Chipolo One places itself where most of the competition can be found: at around 25 euros per piece. The Chipolo One is available in both round and credit card format.
For whom the Chipolo One is worthwhile: For those who use both Android and iOS and are looking for a comparatively cheap or extra colorful option.
Eufy SmartTrack Link: the price-performance winner
Eufy’s Security SmartTrack is very similar to the Chipolo One. It can also be connected to both iOS and Android. As with the Chipolo, there is also Apple with iOS Where is
, with Android only Bluetooth. We are also in the same price range at 25 euros.
However, several points speak in favor of the Security SmartTrack. Eufy specifies the Bluetooth range as 80 meters, which is another 20 meters more than the Chipolo. And in conjunction with iPhones, the Eufy tracker can do that too Where is
-Use network.
However, there is a catch: Eufy has not been able to boast of data protection in the recent past. In December it was revealed that Eufy had stored unencrypted images from its security cameras in the cloud – although the marketing material spoke of only storing images locally.
Nothing is known about any concerns about Eufy trackers. In addition, the tracker data should be less sensitive than camera recordings. Nevertheless, a bland aftertaste remains.
For whom is the Eufy SmartTrack worthwhile: For those who are looking for a good, cheap tracker and consider their privacy concerns to be minor.
